Rooms & hosting
Everything about running a room: who can join, what the host controls, and how long rooms last.
Joining and room codes
- Every room has a 6-character code and an invite link. Discord activity games get one too, so browser friends can join.
- Opening a request to join room (the default for browser rooms) asks the host first; you can add a short note. You join automatically once they accept (if you'd closed the page, come back within 10 minutes, or ask again).
- Public rooms are listed under Public games on the home page (and in the voice channel), so anyone can join in one click.
- Invite only rooms aren't listed anywhere: people need the code or link. Games started from a Discord voice channel start invite only.
- Hosts can also hide the room code, so only they can see and share it.
The host
- Whoever creates the room is the host. The host picks the mode and settings, starts games and can shuffle teams.
- Hosts can move or remove players (tap a player). Removed players can only come back as spectators.
- Ban (tap a player) removes someone and keeps them out of the room. Unban them any time under Room settings.
- Join requests come in through the button: Accept, Decline (they can ask again after 20 seconds) or Ban (they can't ask again).
- End game stops the current game but keeps everyone in the room for a rematch. Close room ends it for everyone.
- If the host leaves, anyone still in the room can press Claim host.
Settings
- Word packs: pick themed packs or add your own words (inside jokes work great). Choose “only custom words” for a fully custom board. Custom words follow the room's rating: no swearing in family-friendly rooms (switching an 18+ room back drops the ones that don't fit).
- Board & clues: board size (4×4 to 6×6), number of assassins, team voting, typed or drawn clues, strict or relaxed clue rules. With team voting, operatives tap cards to vote; once most agree, anyone on the team presses Reveal (or End turn). Nothing is revealed until someone presses it.
- Timer: an optional clock per turn (always on in Blitz); the run length in Sudden Death.
- Room: request to join, public or invite only, hide the code, allow guests, room size limit, team names, lock teams and late joining. Banned players can be unbanned here too.
Privacy settings (public, invite only, hide code) can be changed during a game; the rest only in the lobby.
Who can join
- Request to join (the default for browser rooms): the room is listed under Public games, and everyone new asks to join with an optional note, including people in the Discord call. The host accepts or declines.
- Public rooms are listed and anyone can join with one click; invite only rooms need the code or link (games started from a Discord voice channel start invite only: people in the call join through the Activity). Hosts can also hide the code from everyone else.
- Allow guests: turn it off to require a Discord or Google account. Guests already in the room can stay.
- Limit room size: cap how many people (spectators included) can be in the room, from 2 to 60. Nobody already there is removed; it only stops new people joining.
- You can only be in one room at a time, Discord activity included: joining a room takes you out of any other, and your other tabs and devices move with you. Closing the page (or navigating away) takes you out after a few seconds.
Chat
Every room has a text chat: the round button in the bottom-left corner. Messages are kept only while the room is open. Slurs are always blocked; family-friendly rooms also hash out swearing. In 18+ rooms, only players who've opted in to 18+ can see and send messages.
18+ mode
Hosts can switch a room to 18+ word packs, but only once every seated player has confirmed they're 18+ and opted in (under Profile & Privacy). Players who haven't see hidden words, can only spectate and don't see the chat. Only the host sees who still needs to opt in.
When rooms close
- When nobody is connected any more: a few seconds after the last person leaves or closes the page (just long enough that a refresh doesn't lose your game).
- When the host presses Close room.
- After an hour with no moves or changes. You'll get a warning with an “I'm still here” button 5 minutes before.
